Therapy

Therapy in a New Key

When you think of your mental health, you probably picture a never-ending struggle with problems:

Relentless anxiety keeping you awake at night.

Depression sapping your energy.

A lack of purpose and motivation dogging your most important decisions in work and relationships.

That inner perfectionist always on your back wanting more.

You don’t see an opportunity to live more creatively.

Why should you? It’s the problems that are so often in the foreground of our experience, we don’t even realize that there could be anything more.

I take a different approach.

I see therapy as a way of learning how to embrace the dissonances of life, how to read the chord changes, expand our range, and, ultimately, to make more interesting music together.

If life feels like walking through a dimly lit house, therapy helps you feel for the light switches and discover new aspects of your interior space.

Through talking together, you’ll hear your ideas and feelings more clearly and follow them where they need to take you.

You’ll find new ways of thinking and feeling about yourself, your relationships, and the world.

You’ll make transformative changes and come away with greater insight into how to live more creatively.

You can have it all in therapy.

So many people come away from therapy feeling one of two things.

They find somebody who listens empathically, but doesn’t zero in on what they can do to really change their lives. Or they find somebody who is great at helping them come up with strategies to cope, but they don’t fully listen past the headlines to help you truly thrive.

I see therapy as that wonderful combination: listening widely and deeply – and zeroing in sharply and precisely.

And to me the most wonderful thing about therapy – like music – is the back and forth.

You won’t see a detached therapist on this side passively listening or just giving you advice. You’ll feel that sense of me really taking in and learning your music, and finding ways of collaborating and sharing in the creative process together.

You’ll also have a lot of fun!

My goal from the very first session is to help you see and feel something new that you didn’t fully put together and to help you see the artistic connections your psyche has been waiting for you to make.

We’ll do that with freewheeling metaphors and images that help you illuminate what has been happening inside that’s been so confusing.

As a big fan of movies, music, and literature, I’ll draw on references far and wide to help us connect to the heart of the matter for you.

In the process, you’ll come away forgetting about your problems and marveling at how much fun it is to discover new possibilities together.

Let’s start this collaboration.

If you’re intrigued and ready to find out how you can transform your greatest struggles into living a more energized, fulfilled, and creative life, call or email me.

I’d love to show you how great you’ll feel as we embark on this joint collaboration.
